The West Coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
Last week, I ordered a single Speed Stick antiperspirant from Amazon. (Unscented, of course – I’ve got m-o-n-e-y pheromones, and I don’t want anything interfering with them.)
That Speed Stick was priced at only $2.49 – which is less than it would have cost me at a local drug store. Plus Amazon delivered it the very next day to the Wildly Popular Blog Building – the new home of 2 or 3 lines – for no additional charge.
I’ve spent the hour or so on my computer, trying to figure out how Amazon can do this and still make money. What I’ve learned is that Amazon’s North American retail business actually loses money – at least according to Amazon’s financial statements.
I don’t believe that for a minute. How stupid does Amazon think we are?

Spending an hour online trying to figure out Amazon’s business model was a big waste of time – I’m more confused now than I was before I started.
What’s not a big waste of my time is mulling over which records should be included in the 2023 class of the 2 OR 3 LINES “GOLDEN DECADE” HIT SINGLES HALL OF FAME.
As always, our new hall of fame inductees are WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER records – there’s not a dud among them.
Including today’s featured song, “California Girls” by the Beach Boys.

“California Girls” was released in July 1965 on the Beach Boys’ ninth studio album, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) – an album that I bought when I was 13 years old and played about a zillion times. (Trust me – I knew every word of “The Girl from New York City” and “Amusement Parks U.S.A.” and “Let Him Run Wild’ and “Help Me, Rhonda” and especially “California Girls.”)
If you were asked to choose the one record that most perfectly encapsulated the entire oeuvre of the Beach Boys, you could do a lot worse than picking “California Girls.”
After all, what was Beach Boys music really about? It was about California, and it was about girls. That was pretty much it.
