Jefferson Airplane – "Volunteers" (1969)

One generation got old

One generation got soul

The tables have certainly turned since this song was released in 1969, haven’t they?

“Send not to know for whom the bell tolls,” John Donne wrote. “It tolls for thee.”

“Send not to know which generation got old,” 2 or 3 lines writes.  “It’s your generation that got old!”

Let’s face it, boys and girls.  You got old.  2 or 3 lines got old.  And the members of the Jefferson Airplane got old.

The late Paul Kanter and the late Marty Balin got old:

Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen got old, too:

And Grace Slick got old:

*     *     *     *     *

Have you ever wondered how Jefferson Airplane got their name?  Me, too!
