Sleater-Kinney – "Dig Me Out" (1997)

What do you want?
What do you know?
One to get started
Three till we go

Sleater-Kinney is an all-female rock trio that formed in Olympia, Washington, in 1994.  (None of the group’s members are named Sleater or Kinney – the band’s name was taken from the name of a street in a suburb of Olympia.)

Unlike Cream, James Gang, and other classic power trios, Sleater-Kinney doesn’t have a bass player.  But the band’s two guitarists tune their guitars down one and a half steps, which enables rhythm guitarist Corin Tucker to fill the bass-player role without actually playing a bass.

The best-known member of Sleater-Kinney is its lead guitarist, Carrie Brownstein, who co-stars with longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen in the oh-so-annoying “comedy” series, Portlandia.

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein
I find Armisen slightly more annoying in Portlandia than Brownstein, but it’s close.

“Dig Me Out” is the title track from Sleater-Kinney’s third studio album, which was released in 1997:

I think the song's best line is “I wear your rings and sores.”
