Das Racist -- "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" (2008)

I'm at the Pizza Hut
I'm at the Taco Bell
I'm at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell

You've been at a combination Pizza Hut-Taco Bell, haven't you?  In my experience, they're about 80% Taco Bell -- the only Pizza Hut items they have are those little "personal" pan pizzas and breadsticks.

Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are trademarks of Yum! Brands, Inc. (NYSE symbol "YUM," of course), which also owns KFC, Long John Silver's, and A&W restaurants.

Yum now operates hundreds of multibranded restaurants like the combination Pizza Hut-Taco Bell that Das Racist sings about.

Multibranding is Yum!'s primary corporate strategy -- sort of two restaurants for the price of one.  The New York Times wrote a whole article about it, which you can read by clicking here.

There are KFC-Taco Bell combinations, and Long John Silver's-Taco Bell combinations, and KFC-A&W combinations, and perhaps others as well.  It appears from this photo that there are even some three-brand combinations.  I say "WHY THE HELL AREN'T THERE MORE OF THEM?"

I had never heard of Brooklyn hip-hop trio Das Racist until I saw an article about them in the November 22 New Yorker on the way home from work last night.  ("Das" doesn't mean the German article, but connotes a slurred pronunciation of "That's.")   The article says they are "as unsettling as they are entertaining."

Das Racist

Based on this song, I can't imagine anyone describing them as "unsettling."  Of course, you might not find them "entertaining" either, and I frankly wouldn't try very hard to talk you out of that opinion.

The song is a simulated cell-phone conversation between two stupid guys who are trying to find one another.  One says he's at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.  The other one says he's at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, too.

Are they at different combination Pizza Huts and Taco Bells?  Is that the problem?

Here's the song:

Here's a short lip-sync video featuring about a minute of the song:

You didn't really think you could buy this song from iTunes or Amazon, did you?
