A time so full of promise
Holds nothing for me
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Remember the Saturday Night Live character, Debbie Downer?

Well, Debbie Downer has nothing on Beverley Martyn, who went by her first name when she recorded Randy Newman’s “Happy New Year” in 1966.
Beverley’s record company signed up an all-star group of studio musicians to back her on “Happy New Year” – that’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones (later of Led Zeppelin) on guitar and bass, Andy White (who subbed in for Ringo Starr when the Beatles recorded “Love Me Do” in 1962) on drums, and Nicky Hopkins (he’s best known for his work on “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” and many other Rolling Stones records) on piano.

(P.S. – Thanks to my Facebook friend, Gwynne “Nipper Seaturtle” Kahn, for bringing this record to my attention!)
