He's been one of my top 3 performers of all time since the 70's. Absolutely amazing show every time. Many of those musicians have since passed on, so I'm honored to have seen them work. Leon was one of the legendary songwriters and bandleaders of any era (George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen), and keeps it going today—a national treasure.Third Axishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04411090634396102738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2323390334328181301.post-2695288850316830102012-08-09T15:50:17.833-04:002012-08-09T15:50:17.833-04:00Actually, the version of "Delta Lady" by...Actually, the version of "Delta Lady" by Leon here (the original) has Merry Clayton and Bonnie Bramlett on vocals. The core band/rhythm section was made up members of the Delaney & Bonnie and Friends group.

As for the mention of the great backing vocalist, Kathi McDonald, she was definitely a standout artist in her own right and featured on many of the great records of the time as well. Along with vocalists Claudia Lennear, Merry Clayton, Clydie King, Venetta Fields, and Sherlie Matthews, McDonald was part of that go-to group of singers who defined a great, great era of rock/soul/R&B that will never be repeated, or exceeded.Third Axishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04411090634396102738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2323390334328181301.post-86837297263140853882011-01-10T15:20:23.140-05:002011-01-10T15:20:23.140-05:00Hi there - Just so you know....the context of that...Hi there - Just so you know....the context of that "Delta Lady" video was that it was part of a one hour (I'm pretty sure) program that was on PBS in maybe 1971 or '72(ish). There was stuff going on all over the place...seemed like an odd assortment of people dancing, one woman making a cake or something, children sitting around. They played a lot of songs...every single one was really, really fabulous!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
