George Baker Selection – "Little Green Bag" (1970)

Lookin' back
On the track
For a little greenback

As the lyrics I just quoted indicate, the actual title of today's featured song was "Little Greenback."

But someone screwed up and the single was released with the title "Little Green Bag."  (There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip.)

You younger fans of 2 or 3 lines may remember this song from the soundtrack of Reservoir Dogs, which was director Quentin Tarantino's first movie.

Here's the opening credit sequence of Reservoir Dogs, which features "Little Green Bag":

I am old enough to remember hearing today's featured song on the radio when it was released just before I graduated from high school in 1970.  (I am also old enough to remember President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Edsel, and "Car 54, Where Are You?")

The George Baker Selection was a Dutch band whose lead singercalled himself George Baker.  (His real name was Johannes Bouwens.)

The band sold over 20 million records worldwide before breaking up in 1978.

Speaking of breaking up, happy Valentine's Day to all you ladies.  You might wonder why I'm featuring a song with green in the title rather than red.  But once you figure out this year's "29 Songs in 28 Days" themes, it will all become clear to you.

Here's "Little Green Bag":

  1. was the bridge in the middle of the song taken from a Spanish opera aria?
